Living Schoolyard Program

We believe that all Indiana children are entitled to experience activities in the outdoors, regardless of ability:

We have begun a new program during the school year 2015/2016 - Living Schoolyards!

In an effort to reach as many children as possible and help connect them to nature, the Living Schoolyard Program will allow us to go where the children spend the greatest part of their time: in school. We will be working in partnership with area schools to create pockets of nature on school grounds. We will be working with teachers, students, parents and their community to develop their vision and bring it to reality. Keep checking in as we add the list of our new partners and what their project will be!!!

Our participating schools:

  • Klondike Elementary - 1st graders - Creating a Butterfly Garden

  • Happy Hollow Elementary - 5th & 6th graders - Creating Wildlife Friendly Outdoor classrooms and Rasied Bed Veggie Garden

  • Cumberland Elementary - 1st & 2nd graders - Creating a Wildlife Friendly Garden

  • Mayflower Mill Elementary - 2nd, 3rd & 4th grade children - afterschool Junior Nature Club focused on creating a bird friendly area

Would you like to attract Butterflies to your home? These are the plants that the children are learning the Butterflies love, some as caterpillars (Host Plants) and some as Butterflies (Nectar Plants). We can all do our part to make our city Butterfly Friendly - just click on the file below!
